Version 0.8.7 released

The new release is basically a bug fix release. I haven't added new features but I fixed many bugs. Since Capivara was mentioned in the German IT magazine c't (11/09, p.62) many readers have reported several issues with the latest release. Thus, I want to release a whole bunch of bug fixes.

Version 0.8.6 released

It's time for a new release. Before some of you get too excited I can tell you that I haven't completed the module to save synchronization details.
Nonetheless, there are a few changes which could be interesting to you. Capivara now has two connection observers, one which checks if connections are lost and another which tries to avoid getting disconnected from servers by periodically sending requests in the background. Moreover, the algorithm for finding duplicated files has been improved for better efficiency. It's pretty fast now, believe me! Well, the downside is that this algorithm is not yet used in the standard hash-based synchronization. Additionally, Capivara can now save passwords of user logins. But be aware, this is not cryptographically save! It's just a convenience option. So, don't believe your passwords will be protected against any attack. Under the hood I use Triple DES which provides enough cryptographic strength for me. Also make sure that your .jfilesync directory is not readable for other users in your environment!

Version 0.8.5.1 released

I forgot to include the Italian flag in the 0.8.5 bundle. Unfortunately, this crashed the installer. Both problems are now fixed.

Version 0.8.5 released

I call this a patience release. I fixed some minor bugs. There is also some more support for Mac OS X when synchronizing directories. Two translations to Spanish were added to Capivara. Thanks to the contributors! See ChangeLog for addtional information.
Capivara isn't dead. I will continue to add more features in the end of this year. I would also appreciate if anyone wants to support me improving Capivara.
Cheers
Sascha

Version 0.8.4 released

This is an unscheduled release since a critical bug was reported which can cause file corruption when copying bigger files over FTP from a Windows machine. It is caused by a problem in the Java JRE. The new release avoids using this faulty API. Thanks for your help Thibault!

New Website has gone online

It was time for a redesign of the website. I hope the website is now more responsive. Besides, the CapiWiki has gone offline. It was simply too slow on sf.net.

0.8.2.1 Windows installer bug fix

Good things take time. The Java 5 question.

First thing. Capivara is still active and I am currently implementing several new features and fixing bugs. Second. New features always require a lot of TIME and a lot of new CODE. I wondered recently whether anyone minds if I completely switch the Java 5.
If you have serious issues you'd better tell me quick. Otherwise, the next version (0.8.1) is going to require the Java5 platform.

Website update - clarification

If you wondered why I haven't changed the website after releasing the latest versions of Capivara. Short answer: I couldn't because the sourceforge shell login server was down for some time.

Capivara 0.8.1(.1) is out

This release is basically a bug fix release. The biggest difference is the support for all locally available encodings for plug-in connections. That means, you may select the encoding of the underlying file system if you know the correct file encoding in use. It requires JRE 1.5.0 or higher.

Good things come to those who wait.

Fortunately you don't have to wait any longer. The new version of Capivara (0.8.0) is out. What took me so long to release this version? Well, most of the time I did beta testing. Beta testing slows me down quite a bit. I added a few things that I always had in mind. There is "case insensitive" file system support and there is also an option to select the file system encoding. I have tested everything on my Linux box in my personal environment and I had sent the beta version of Capivara out to the translators for beta testing, but consider these new features as experimental.

Apr 28th, 2006
