Version 0.8.7 released
The new release is basically a bug fix release. I haven't added new features but I fixed many bugs. Since Capivara was mentioned in the German IT magazine c't (11/09, p.62) many readers have reported several issues with the latest release. Thus, I want to release a whole bunch of bug fixes.
About
Capivara is a two pane file manager with support for SFTP and FTP servers. Capivara is not an ordinary file manager because it adds synchronization features like comparing timestamps or SHA-1 hash values. The synchronization of Capivara has a preview mode to shows which files are going to be deleted or copied. The basic look and most key bindings are inspired by two file managers I really like to work with: mc and worker.Screencast available
The (not so new) screencast gives you an introduction of how to install Capivara and how to copy and synchronize files.
This video is only available in German right now, but we are going to redo it in English after improving our screencast skills.

The reason for making Capivara
When Capivara was launched (back in 2003) there were not too many
file synchronization tools available. For Linux there is no easy to use tool like
Foldermatch (well, there was none). rsync is a great tool but a
little complex for performing a quick sync to some USB drive. I wanted to have such a nice tool as Foldermatch
for free for Windows and for Linux.
Capivara is therefore entirely written in Java and hence, it easily runs on wide variety of platforms
like Windows, Linux, MacOS, ...
